Industrial Zeolite Water Filters (“MZ”)
High-efficiency, zeolite-depth industrial water filter systems use a single media instead of a layered bed of anthracite, silica sand, and two grades of garnet. There are two key benefits of zeolite vs. multi-layer industrial water filters:
- First and formost, these industrial water filters typically get higher flow rates with the same diameter tank and can filter down to 5 microns instead of 10 for ML filters. For high turbidity (NTU) and high total dissolved solids, ultra-filtration (UF) systems are the first choice. These systems filter down to 0.02 micron and have lower backwash rates.
- Secondly, they are easier to load and maintain. Since there is only one media in the tank, it doesn’t have the opportunity to be loaded incorrectly or have the media get mixed up with an air scour. Zeolite has the highest service flow rates available in a pressure type filter and suitable for final filtration of most city water and well water supplies.

How To Size Industrial Zeolite Water Filters
Use our online single-layer zeolite water filter calculator.
In addition to service flow, the selection of an industrial water filter system must take into account the available backwash flow rate. This is the most important function in the proper operation of a filter. Periodically, the accumulated impurities (iron, sediment, etc.) must be removed (backwashed) from the filter. Backwash flow rates are always much higher than service flow rates in industrial water filters and therefore limit the size of filter that can be installed. As a general rule in sizing filters, select the largest filter that can be backwashed with the flow rate available at the point of filter installation, then note the service flow rate for the filter selected. If it is not adequate for the flow to be treated, a twin, triple or quad filters installed in parallel is required. A parallel installation will increase the service flow while permitting each filter to be backwashed separately with the existing water supply.
