Industrial & Commercial Water Filtration Systems – FAQs
Explore key differences between industrial and residential filters, review available filter types, understand sizing and backwash basics, and learn how Industrial Water Solutions supports filtration systems nationwide, including the Midwest.
What’s the difference between industrial water filters and residential ones?
Industrial and commercial filters are designed for significantly higher flow rates, finer particle removal, and continuous operation.
What types of industrial water filters do you offer?
- Multi-media / Multi-layer filters: 5–10 µm removal
- General sediment filters: 20–40 µm removal
- Iron filters: reduce iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide
- Activated carbon filters: remove taste, odor, and dissolved organic material
- Neutralization filters: balance pH to reduce corrosiveness
- Zeolite filters: remove down to 5 µm at higher flow rates
- Carbon & sediment filters: reduce TSS down to 3–5 µm
- Steel filters: multi-tank systems for high flow industrial applications
We also offer ultrapure filter cartridge housings and stock 1 µm and 5 µm cartridges in our online store.
How do industrial water filters work?
Water passes through filter media beds that trap particles. Most systems automatically backwash and rinse based on a timer or pressure drop. Manganese greensand filters require periodic regeneration, and optional regeneration systems are available.
What if I need finer filtration or have high turbidity or TDS?
Ultrafiltration (UF) systems can remove particles as small as 0.02 µm. These systems are ideal for high TDS or turbidity, where conventional media filters may not be sufficient.
How do I size a filter system correctly?
As a general rule, backwash flow rate, not service flow, determines the maximum filter size. Choose the largest filter your available backwash rate can support. If service flow is still insufficient, consider using twin or triple filters in parallel or opt for UF, which requires less backwash. Contact Industrial Water Solutions for complete filter system sizing.
Do you offer water testing to help select the right system?
Yes. Qualified industrial, healthcare, and engineering clients can request free basic water testing to assist with system selection.
Can I get service or preventative maintenance for my filter system?
Yes. Industrial Water Solutions provides expert repair and preventative maintenance throughout Indiana, the Midwest, and nationwide.
Where are you located, and who do you serve?
We are headquartered in Indiana and serve clients across the United States, with rapid response capabilities in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky.
